Unmanned aerial vehicle goes down near Sadr

An unmanned and unarmed aerial
vehicle belonging to Multi-National Division – Baghdad experienced a
controlled parachute landing near Sadr City Feb. 7.
The unmanned aerial vehicle lost contact with air traffic controllers
shortly after takeoff from an airfield in Taji at approximately 10:30 p.m.
The aircraft was on a flight in support of Iraqi Security Force protecting
Muslims participating in the Ashura pilgrimage.
UPDATE - Sadr City leaders return UAV to Iraqi Army
BAGHDAD, Iraq – Sadr City civic officials returned an unmanned aerial
vehicle belonging to Multi-National Division – Baghdad Feb. 8.
Maj. Gen. Jawad, commander of the 2nd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division,
received the aircraft from Sadr City officials on behalf of MND-B.
In a sign of cooperation, city leaders notified the Iraqi Army that the
aircraft had been recovered.
The aircraft was on a flight in support of Iraqi Security Forces
protecting Muslims participating in the Ashura pilgrimage.
Air traffic controllers lost contact with the unmanned aerial vehicle
shortly after takeoff from an airfield in Taji at approximately 10:30 p.m.
Tuesday. The aircraft then conducted a controlled parachute landing within
Sadr City.
Soldiers from 2nd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division had asked Sadr City
residents to return the UAV if found.
