Iraqi citizens here continue to come forward with information leading Multi-national forces directly to terror suspects.
On May 5, A local Iraqi tipster led U.S. Soldiers conducting a reconnaissance mission in west Baghdad to a house in the Ghazaliya neighborhood where too many cars were present for normal activity. The Soldiers searched the house and detained seven suspects, including a man specifically targeted for participating in terrorist activities and two of his brothers. The seven suspects were taken into custody for questioning.
“The violence in Iraq is not just against multinational forces, it is against Iraqis,” said Lt. Col. Clifford Kent, a Task Force Baghdad spokesperson. “That’s one reason why so many ordinary Iraqi citizens are courageously coming forward with information leading to the capture of these terrorists. The violence of the terrorists steals from everyday Iraqis the chance for employment, prosperity and freedom and the people here are fed up with the terrorists.”
Iraqi Security Forces and Task Force Baghdad officials strongly encourage all Iraqi citizens to report suspicious behavior by e-mailing baghdadtipshotline@yahoo.com or calling one of the TIPS hotlines at 07901737723 or 07901737727.
In other combat operations in Baghdad, two terrorists fired at U.S. soldiers on patrol in south Baghdad at around midnight on May 5. The patrol returned fire, killing one terrorist and capturing the other.
Earlier in the evening terrorists fired four 107 millimeter rocket rounds at an U.S. forward operating base. Soldiers at the gate saw a man with a rifle and scope observing the site. When the Soldiers went to investigate, the man tried to drive away. Soldiers stopped the truck and took the driver into custody for questioning.
