USF-W signs over Camp Al Taqaddum to GoI control

CAMP AL TAQADDUM, Iraq - United States Force - West returned Camp Al Taqaddum and Contingency Operating Location Waleed to the Government of Iraq, Jan. 15, 2009.

Lt. Col. James McHugh, commander, 151st Military Police Battalion, 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division (Advise and Assist Brigade), and Sameer Al-Haddad, secretariat to the Prime Minister of Iraq, officially transferred Camp Al Taqaddum to Government of Iraq control in a ceremony at the camp.
   
Camp Al Taqaddum and COL Waleed are the latest in a series of bases turned over to Iraq by USF-W, including bases near al-Qaim, Habbaniyah and Fallujah and several smaller combat outposts throughout Anbar province.
 
In accordance with the Security Agreement between the U.S. and Iraq and upon U.S. withdrawal from a base or facility, that base or facility will be returned to the control of the appropriate Iraqi entity or demilitarized and closed.  These facilities are able to be closed or transferred to Iraqi control because the Iraqi Security Forces have assumed full responsibility for security in their respective areas.
