KABUL, Afghanistan - The command of Task Force Uruzgan  changed hands July 31 during a transfer of authority ceremony presided by Major General Marc Lessard, commander of Regional Command South.

Dutch Colonel Kees Matthjssen assumed command from Dutch Colonel Richard van Harskamp.

Colonel van Harskamp stressed that the task force had succeeded in keeping the pressure on the insurgents. He said, "TFU has been able to directly insert their combat power into the green zone, keeping the pressure on the insurgents, not allowing them to organise, resupply or coordinate their actions and achieve unity of command.

"Development in the province of Uruzgan is improving," he continued. "The most visible and significant progress is the announced establishment of a permanent UNAMA office in Tarin Kowt. The ANA brigade is progressing well; the Focus District Development is on its way. These are all good signs for a safe and secure environment for the people of Uruzgan."
