Herbert W. Lesnick;Technician Fifth Grade(then Private First Class),
Headquarters Battery, 133rd Field Artillery Battalion, for heroic
achievement in combat on 19 January 1945 in France. While Private First
Class Lesnick was serving as a driver for an artillery liaison section
attached to an infantry battalion, the enemy attacked in great strength and
penetrated the friendly lines. The wire line to the artillery battalion was
frequently out by heavy enemy artillery fire, and Private First Class
Lesnick volunteered to service the line. Working continuously for four
hours under enemy observationand heavy shellfire, he succeeded in
maintaining uninterrupted communications. As a result of his courage and
initiative, the forward observers were able to direct effective fire on
enemy positions, materially aiding the infantry troops in halting the
strong enemy attack. Entered the Service from Los Angeles, California.
