TALLIL, Iraq - U.S. Army Corp of Engineers employee Mike Fellenz, is looking to continue the toy give away program he started into the Mosul region of Iraq.
Mike stated that "We can distribute any donated items with the exception of the following. No stuffed animals or clothing that are or depict pigs, they are considered forbidden by Muslim culture. No items that are too revealing (i.e., Barbie's or dolls that are scantily dressed or reveal too much) since they sway from the principles taught to practicing Muslims. We try and coordinate with the Mayors Cell here on-base and provide toys to the soldiers so they can distribute the items on their missions outside the wire. Since this area is still considered quite hostile, it is sometimes difficult even for them to get too close to the children. We try and distribute the items in a variety of ways so we don't accumulate too many. Since we are close to the Kurdistan region and the security threat is minimal, we also distribute items there."
