TALLIL, Iraq - Navy Cmdr. Mike Lang and Army Capt. Bill Delucchi made a bet last month on the outcome of the Army-Navy football game.
Or as Lang would put it, the Navy-Army football game.
The bet involved the branch of service tapes worn on their respective uniforms.
If Navy won, Delucchi would wear a Navy tape for a day. If Army won, Lang would wear an Army tape for a day.
Both men are serving at Tallil, Iraq with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Lang, a Navy Seabee, is officer-in-charge of the Adder Area Office of the Corps' Gulf Region South District. Delucchi is the GRS S-2, or intelligence officer.
As it turned out history repeated itself, Navy routed Army, 38 to 3, in their Dec. 1 match-up.
Lang said Delucchi was a good sport and readily donned the Navy tape. He also said the Army captain had to be reminded the next day he was still wearing the Navy tape and that he could take it off if he'd like to do so.
"I really didn't mind," said Delucchi, who did say that "I got demoted for a day--everyone called me Lieutenant." Navy Lieutenants and Army Captains were the same bars.
As for the game, DeLucchi said, "I figured Army was due to win this year. I mean, they couldn't go on losing forever...."
