FORT DRUM, New York - While snow may be falling and brisk winds chill the air, the thought of spring may be far off. But an Arbor Day poster contest for post youth sponsored by Fort Drum's Environmental Division's Forest Management Program will make the thought of spring's arrival seem closer.

In its first year, the poster contest is designed to educate 8 to12-year-olds on Fort Drum about the importance of forest management and environmental stewardship. The theme of the contest, "Every Day is Arbor Day at Fort Drum", must be incorporated into each work of art.

The winner of the contest will see his or her effort incorporated into Fort Drum's official 2008 Arbor Day poster which will be widely distributed across the installation, and will receive a framed copy of the poster and an art kit.

National Arbor Day will be celebrated this April 25.

Submission guidelines for the contest require that entrants be between 8 and 12 years old and the artwork be submitted on a 8.5" X 11" sheet of paper with name, age, address and phone number listed on the back. Participants may drop submissions off at Building T-4848, Delahanty Avenue on Fort Drum, or mailed to:
