The bridge made headlines in 2004 when four Blackwater employees' bodies were hung from the bridge. The bridge was re-dedicated April 5, 2008. After years of war the bridge was badly in need of repair. A joint Iraqi and Marine Corps team spearheaded the refurbishment.
