NINEWA, Iraq - One hundred and one Iraqi police graduated from Basic Police Recruit Training Sept. 19, at the Mosul Public Service Academy. This was the second BRT class of the year where the vast majority of the students were Oil Police.

Training in the four-week course began Aug. 23 with a course orientation and basic drill-and-ceremony exercises. The course covered a comprehensive list of tasks for these oil police officer recruits. These tasks will enable them to safely and competently provide protection for Iraq's vital oil resources and facilities, while also preparing them to serve as skilled and ready protectors of the lives and rights of Iraqi citizens.

The first two weeks of training focused on tactical skill, including drill marching, firearms training, and reaction to ambushes, and included in-depth classes on human rights.

During subsequent weeks, students learned vital policing skills, such as riot control, searches of vehicles and persons, defensive tactics, checkpoint operations, officer safety, survival skills, first aid, drug recognition, surveillance techniques, IED awareness, crime scene processing, and criminal investigation procedures.

The oil police graduating from this course represent a vital link in Iraq's efforts to build a capable and professional defense force. They bring great pride to not only themselves, but to the Province, and the Ministry of the Interior.
