AL KHUWAYT, Iraq - Soldiers from the 3rd Iraqi Army Division in Ninewah Province handed out food in Al Khuwayt village March 20.
This was a humanitarian outreach program. The Iraqi Soldiers wanted to improve relations with the village leadership, in addition to helping the local community.
By talking to the village mayor, the Iraqi Army discovered the town needs a water well dug near the village mosque, as well as gravel placed on the main dirt road through the village. The village also needs four wheelchairs and a prosthetic left hand for one of the men in the village.
"Building these successful relationships helps pave the way for the future of Iraq," said Capt. Stephen Bomar, a U.S. military spokesman in Iraq.
The Iraqi Army and Coalition forces are scheduled to distribute four wheelchairs on a follow-up engagement later this month, as well as coordinate with a Coalition force hospital for a prosthetic left hand.
