Multi-National Corps IraqBASRA, Iraq - Soldiers of the 1st Iraqi Army, 1st Division, 3rd Brigade, distributed approximately 4,000 food rations and 180,000 one-liter bottles of water to citizens of Basra April 4. The distribution of humanitarian supplies was an effort to assist Iraqis in Basra.

This relief operation was planned and executed by the Iraqi Army in conjunction with the Government of Iraq. It took place in the neighborhood of Al - Hyyaniyah. The Iraqi soldiers performed this operation independently, demonstrating that the Iraq Army is a fully-functional and cohesive unit.

After hostilities began, Iraqi Security Forces mobilized two brigade-sized elements into Basra within 48 hours to establish a safe and secure environment for the people who live there. The success of this operation is evident by the noticeable reduction in criminal activity and other hostile acts.
