Blackanthem Military News FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq - Iraqi Army soldiers detained 44 criminals and discovered a weapons cache in the Hillah area, June 22.
Soldiers in 1st Battalion, 31st Iraqi Army Brigade detained 11 during operations in Kifl, Hillah, al-Ibrihimiyah, Hashmiyah and Hamza. Soldiers in the Brigade's 2nd Battalion detained eight during operations in an-Neel and al-Imam. Soldiers in the Brigade's 3rd Battalion detained 25 during operations in Jabella and Diyara.
A cache was also found during the operations. The cache contained AK-47s, a 5 mm pistol, a rocket propelled grenade launcher, an RPG scope and three pistols.
"This is part of a larger operation across the 31st Iraqi Army Brigade's area to increase presence in built-up areas in order to target suspected criminals and get them off the streets," said Maj. Mike Crane,an operations officer for the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. "There are warrants out for most of those who were detained and the rest are suspected of criminal activities. This was a successful operation for the Iraqi Security Forces, clearly demonstrating their effectiveness to keep their area safe for its citizens."
