Blackanthem Military News BALAD, Iraq - Iraqi Security Forces detained two suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq members and nine others in northern Iraq during separate operations Aug. 6-8.
Tikrit Special Weapons and Tactics team detained a key suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq weapons facilitator in Tikrit, Aug. 8. The suspect is believed to be facilitating weapons for members of the Islamic State of Iraq and AQI in the Salah Din area. He was recently sentenced to 15 years in prison, but pardoned through the Iraqi reconciliation program and continued to facilitate AQI.
During an operation in the Al Tamim neighborhood of Bayji Aug. 7, Iraqi Security Forces detained nine suspected AQI/ISI cell members. The individuals are believed to be using Bayji as a safe haven for their terrorists' activities in northern Iraq.
In Bi'aj Aug. 6, the 3rd Iraqi Army Reconnaissance detained a suspected AQI cell leader from the Sinjar and Bi'aj area. The individual is believed to be a former AQI emir for Bi'aj and was recently assigned to reassemble a cell to conduct operations from Bi'aj.
