BAQUBAH, Iraq - Coalition force Soldiers found and destroyed four suspected vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices in the southern Diyala river valley, Iraq, March 25.
"Operation Viking Expedition was designed to confirm AQI caches and dumping grounds for victims," said Maj. John Burpo, operations officer for 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. "This operation was part of a series of operations that is disrupting the ability of AQI to influence Baquba and the Diyala region."
As part of the operation, air weapon team helicopters engaged three suspicious vehicles destroying them with Hellfire missiles.
After a search of the area, a bunker was found containing another vehicle. They also discovered a small cache there. The bunker and cache were destroyed by two bombs dropped by close-air support planes.
Two foxholes were also found filled with jackets and blankets. Four decomposed bodies were in the area.
