BAGHDAD, Iraq - Coalition forces have signed over another medical clinic to provide medical support to the Iraq National Police, Dec. 13.
"This is one of 7 clinics being signed over to the National Police," said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Andrew O'Brien, Multi-National Security Transition Team - Iraq Health Affairs. "This is the 5th clinic to be signed over and we've got one left for final inspection and one under construction." The building consists of computers, printers, office furnishings, medical supplies, medical equipment, and miscellaneous supplies and also holds the capabilities of x-ray, labs, pharmacy and overnight patient observation.
This clinic, when staffed with Ministry of Interior medical personnel, with a Ministry of Interior health budget, and functioning medical logistics systems, will allow the National Police to sustain health service support to its operational units.
"The signing over makes me very happy'" said Iraqi National Police Maj. Emad, Officer-In-Charge, Clinic Site 1. "We now have Iraqi doctors in an Iraqi facility on an Iraqi compound to care for our Iraqi forces. It is a very exciting day."
Also present for the signing and inspection of the facility was Staff Maj. Gen. Al-Waaly, Social Welfare director and Dr. Ibrahim Khadum Mohsin, Ministry of Interior health director. The coalition transferred authority, management and control of this medical clinic to the Ministry of Interior Director of Health.
