Blackanthem Military News DULLES, VA - Freedom Alliance today announced the opening of the application period for the summer 2009 Military Leadership Academy. The Academy is an alternative to the traditional summer camp experience and develops students into effective leaders. Cadets enhance their knowledge, skills and practice of leadership based on the curriculum of the U.S. Army. The program has graduated over eight hundred high school students since its inception in 2001.
"The Academy helps develop high school students into leaders and productive members of their respective communities," remarked Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilgannon. "We have had the honor of hosting some of America's brightest and motivated students. I know that 2009 will be just as successful. Cadets who graduate become better citizens and stronger, and more disciplined individuals. I highly encourage any student who is willing to push their limits as a leader, to accept the challenges presented at the Academy."
During the sessions, cadets function in a constantly supervised and structured environment. They engage in activities centered on American military history and compete in a global crisis simulation that develops critical thinking and decision-making skills.
The Academy includes visits to U.S. military installations to teach cadets about the customs, courtesies, and traditions of the military. Cadets come away from these experiences with a greater respect and appreciation for those who serve our nation in uniform. Cadets also visit historical sites such as Yorktown, Jamestown, and the monuments in Washington, D.C. to gain a better understanding of our national heritage.
There are two sessions planned for the summer of 2009. The first will be held July 5-18 and the second from July 26-August 8. The first session will be held at Fort Pickett in Blackstone, Virginia. The second session will be held at the Eastover Retreat Center, located across the James River from Williamsburg, Virginia.
For more information or to sign up please visit www.MLACamp.com or FreedomAlliance.org. Academy registration ends May 15. Those who register before March 27 will receive an early bird rate.
The mission of Freedom Alliance is to advance the American heritage of freedom by honoring and encouraging military service, defending the sovereignty of the United States and promoting a strong national defense.
