CAMP ATTERBURY JOINT MANEUVER TRAINING CENTER, Ind. - Training for Soldiers is critical in developing and maintaining the skills and discipline needed for a successful and safe mission, whether it is a training exercise or a deployment.
The 81st Troop Command recognizes the values of training as being paramount for success. This command is currently training Soldiers in four separate companies of military police and medical, to deploy to Haiti. The military police rotations will provide security for engineer work sites, and base camp operations. Medical personnel will provide medical support at several locations and provide base camp medical operations.
In addition to preparing four companies to deploy, the command is also completing required sustainment training for the other assigned companies. Sustainment training ensures that the skills and discipline learned by Soldiers, before, during and after a deployment are attained and honed. This is something that is second nature for these War Eagles.
"There are two pieces to the training," said 81st Troop Command Commander Col. Mark Coers. "Annual requirements and the skill set associated with the Defense Support to Civil Authorities to make these warriors successful in achieving and maintaining specialized skills. This is a building block for a strong foundation."
Soldiers have learned to plan, arrange and execute safe and successful missions as a result of an aggressive and comprehensive training program. This training goes from the highest level down to the lowest to ensure all Soldiers are ready to execute missions in an efficient and effective manner.
Experience and knowledge sharing is also a tool used within this command. Tapping into Soldiers that have served on deployment and have imbedded experience, facilitates the team sharing concept that is a part of ensuring new Soldiers are fully aware of how to utilize the training they are receiving.
Col. Coers stated, "Leaders sharing knowledge is part of good team building."
Upon completion of annual training the Soldiers of 81st Troop Command will return to home station fully prepared to react when called upon by the state and the nation in a time of crisis.
