CRANSTON, RI - On Saturday, March 8th, 2009, Brigadier General Thomas Haynes was promoted to Major General and assigned new duties in the Air National Guard. Major General Thomas Haynes was awarded his second star in a ceremony held at the Rhode Island State House.
Major General Haynes, of East Providence, will assume new duties as assistant to Gen. Arthur J. Lichte, commander of the Air Mobility Command. This command consists of active duty, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve. The role makes Major General Haynes responsible for advising Lichte and his staff on all issues affecting the Air National Guard. Haynes will continue to report for duty at Scott Air Force Base, in Illinois, where Air Mobility Command maintains its headquarters.
Haynes, who attained the rank of Brigadier General, the first star rank, in 2005, has been assigned to Scott Air Force Base for the last two years. He has served in the Rhode Island National Guard since 1980. He was deployed to Europe and Southwest Asia for Operations Desert Storm.
