Happy Easter
 |
| Debra D. Johnson |
I would like to take this opportunity to wish our soldiers and their families a very Happy Easter. This is the day that many people around the world celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If it weren’t for Him rising on the 3rd day, none of us would have the countless choices that we have today.
I would like for all of us to take this day and reflect on what Christ did for us. But more importantly, let’s reflect on what He went through before He rose again. Christ went to hell on our behalf for 3 days and did battle on our behalf so that we would have a right to freedom, health and whatever else we need in this life. I think back to when He was being bruised for our iniquities and chastised for our peace. What He went through for us to be free, I can’t begin to imagine. As a parent, I would imagine the pain to be unbearable seeing your child crucified for our freedom.
I think about our soldiers and how they sacrificed their lives so that we can continue to have the peace and freedom that our Lord, Jesus Christ died for. Our soldiers and their families should also be remembered on this day for their unselfish love toward our country. Let’s not just let this day be a day where we dress up and take pictures and overeat, but let this be a day that we give thanks to God for carrying the cross for us, and for the soldiers for taking up the mantle so we can continue to have freedom in our country!
I wrote the following poem by imagining how Mary felt, when her Son was sacrificed for all of us. I now dedicate this poem to all of the parents that may have lost loved ones to the war. May God’s peace and continued strength be with you always!
Jesus
Before You were born, You knew You had to die.
I would ask myself, over and over again,
Why couldn’t He have chosen somebody else’s child?
I watched You grow into a young man,
Studying and praying, for You knew the plan.
I saw Your eyes, so full of compassion,
Healing the sick and raising the dead.
I always wished You had time to be a child and play instead.
But You knew the call on Your life was so great,
That You studied day and night, and for that hour, You would wait.
The hour came.
I didn’t know that I would be wrecked with so much pain.
I watched them beat You all through the night,
But still You said nothing and didn’t put up a fight.
They stuck a crown of thorns in Your head.
I cried and asked them to take me instead.
You carried the cross as far as You could go.
What You were thinking, I would never know.
They nailed Your hands to the cross,
I wondered, did they know the cost of a soul lost?
They nailed Your hands and feet,
And pierced Your side to make Your death complete.
I cried and cried until the hour You died.
I cried, for I thought the pain of losing You would subside.
I rejoice now for You are truly alive!
You are the only true and living God,
My son, My son the only begotten One.
It was an honor to carry You,
For God so loved the world, that He gave the world You.
Now I hope and pray that people will give their lives to You, my Son,
So God’s will, would be completely done!
