KABUL, Afghanistan - At least 10 militants were killed and one detained as Afghan National Army soldiers and International Security Assistance Forces service members responded to an attack on a combat outpost in Paktika province this morning.

Insurgents attacked the combat outpost with indirect fire, including multiple rockets and mortars, at least one of which contained, small-arms fire and a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device.

ANSF and ISAF responded with counter fire, close air support and attack helicopters, killing at least 10 of the attackers and detaining one.

Orgun district sub-governor, Aziziullah Haya Yai said in a radio interview at the Orgun District Center, the ANSF and ISAF defeated the insurgents easily. The insurgent attacks seek to place fear in the people of Paktika to keep Afghanistan poor and the people scared to live their life in safety.

He added that with the help of the ANSF, the Afghan people can and will fight against the insurgents to make Afghanistan rich and safe.

The event resulted in no civilian casualties.
