NURISTAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Soldiers from the Afghan National Army, with support from their coalition partners, conducted an air assault July 25 in order to reinforce security in Barg-e Matal, located in the Nuristan province.
Initial reports indicate the security forces did not encounter any resistance from the Taliban.
The combined assault force took deliberate steps to avoid hurting any innocent civilians during the operation.
"The ANSF executed a well-planned, well-executed strike, displaying their tenacity to take the fight to the enemy," said U.S. Army Col. Andrew Poppas, commanding officer, Task Force Bastogne. "Nuristan remains a safer place today due to their efforts."
Coalition forces provided air support and supplies for the operation. The support helped the ANSF further secure the town, continuing their disruption of insurgent operations throughout the region.
Coalition forces continue to cooperate closely with the Afghan National Security Forces as they secure the Afghan population.
