KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan National Police, advised and assisted by coalition forces, found and destroyed a weapons cache during operations in Oruzgan province July 8-10.

In an effort to disrupt militant activities and secure the region the combined forces were conducting a two-day cordon and search operation in the Shahidi Hassas district.

Throughout the course of the operation, the Afghan-led force discovered and destroyed a weapons cache containing 180 rounds of ammunition, three homemade bombs, and assorted weapons. The ANP confiscated and destroyed the cache contents.

During the two-day operation the combined patrol was engaged with small-arms and machine gun fire numerous times by enemy forces from multiple locations. The force returned fire on the militants, killing several.

There were no Afghan, coalition force or civilian casualties as a result of the operation.
