Blackanthem Military News, BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – 2nd Kandak, 1st Brigade, 209th Afghan National Army Corps Soldiers and Coalition forces were attacked by an unknown amount of enemy fighters while operating in the Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar province June 4.
ANA and Coalition forces received rocket and small-arms fire near the village of Chenar, located 35 kilometers (22 miles) north of Kandahar. The combined force returned fire at the enemy force then maneuvered to defendable fighting positions. Coalition close air support was requested and observed munitions were dropped on three enemy positions.
There were an estimated two dozen enemy fighters killed during the four hour battle and no reports of Afghan civilian injuries.
“Enemy fighters are no match for the skill and determination of the Afghan National Army and Coalition forces,” said Army Maj. Christopher Belcher, Combined Joint Task Force- 82 spokesperson. “We will continue to pursue and defeat all enemy fighters who threaten the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.”
