KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers highlighted their artillery skills after completing training with the 122 mm D-30, gun on April 26.

At Camp Shorabak, the home of the ANA's 3rd Kandak, 205 Hero Corps, the new 102-strong ANA Artillery Company gave a demonstration of its firepower to the commander of 3/205 Brigade, Brigadier General Mohayoddin Ghuri, and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Task Force Helmand commander, British Brigadier Tim Radford.

"Today I am very happy because the ANA have been trained by our British friends on the D-30 gun," said Brigadier General Mohayoddin. "This shows great progress for the ANA 3/205 Brigade."

The Artillery Company had been trained by British gunners of the Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT) from 40 Regiment, Royal Artillery, and The School of Artillery in Lark Hill, United Kingdom.

"For three years we have trained together with the British, worked together, been fighting together," said Brigadier General Mohayoddin. "We are not friends, we are brothers, like one family in Helmand. My soldiers and the British soldiers are no different and I say thank you to the British people for sending their families to Afghanistan to support the Afghan people."

"The ANA are progressing quickly and you can really see the progress that's being made; this is just another example of how much better the ANA is getting as a fighting force," said Brigadier Radford. "We are one stage closer to the ANA being independent and moving away from purely mentoring, into partnering and ultimately for the ANA being able to operate by themselves against the insurgency."
