Tip leads MND-B Soldiers, ISF to weapons caches

FORWARD OPERATING BASE FALCON, Iraq - Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers and Iraqi Security Forces seized a weapons cache and removed bomb-making materials Aug. 29 during security operations in the Rashid district of southern Baghdad.

A concerned Iraqi citizen called Soldiers from Troop C, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, MND-B, to turn over possible bomb-making materials.
   
At approximately 1:15 p.m., the Iraqi, from the Saha community in southeastern Baghdad, brought bottles of liquid and a timing device to a combat outpost.
   
A coalition explosives ordnance team later confirmed that the box of assorted materials, which included acetone, were possible precursors to an improvised explosive device attack.
   
At approximately 8:30 p.m., Iraqi National Police from the 2nd Battalion, 5th Brigade, 2nd NP Div., acting on a tip from a local Iraqi citizen in the Bayaa community, seized a weapons cache of two mortar tubes, eight 120mm mortar rounds, two hand-held radios, two homemade IEDs, three explosively formed projectile IEDs, one dual-array EFP, a block of TNT explosives, three rolls of copper wire and 200 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
   
They also discovered three flash cameras, miscellaneous wires and IED-making materials at the site.
   
"The Iraqi Security Forces continue to make substantial gains in their ongoing efforts to keep the communities and neighborhoods of the Rashid district safe and secure from the violent acts of criminals and terrorists," said Maj. Dave Olson, 1st BCT spokesperson, 4th Inf. Div., MND-B. "The 1st "Raider" Brigade is committed to ensuring that the Iraqi Security Forces have our combined support in their endeavor to protect and to serve the people of Baghdad."
