CAMP LEATHERNECK, Helmand Province, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan -

"It's not about how long your life is, 80 years, 100 years," said Lt. Col. Christian Cabaniss on June 5 to the men of 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan. "Your measure is what you do with the time that you have. The things you do now, people will remember, and they will remember forever!" Cabaniss, the battalion commander, gathered his Marines for possibly the last time as a unit before departing Camp Leatherneck to take part in what he labeled, "a summer of decisions in Afghanistan." Roger that! I know LtCol Cabaniss here in Jacksonville, NC. He is a truly honorable and capable man. As a recently retired Marine, I wish that I had had the opportunity to serve under him. For the Marines and sailors under his command, they are surely in good hands. For their families, your loved ones have the very best leadership from the Battalion Commander. God speed to you all!

Lt.Col. Cabaniss is my nephew and I can attest to the fact that what he says he means and steadfastly believes what he says.He was an honorable kid and he is an honorable man. He has been taught his whole life by his parents and family to rely on a strong christian faith, honor, duty, sacrifice and generosity to others. There are no words to express our pride in him and the men who follow him.
