Sgt. Alex R. Jimenez, 10th Mountain Division Soldier missing since his unit was attacked by insurgent forces in May 2007, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant effective June 26, 2007.
FORT DRUM, New York - A 10th Mountain Division Soldier missing since his unit was attacked by insurgent forces in May 2007 has been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
Sgt. Alex R. Jimenez' family will receive all entitlements due retroactively to June 26, 2007, the date of his promotion.
In keeping with long standing Army policy, Soldiers who are missing or captured are promoted as their time in rank and time in service make them eligible.
He previously served in Iraq from June 2004 to June 2005.
Jimenez is the recipient of the Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
Missing along with Jimenez is Pfc. Byron Fouty, a native of Detroit. Both men are ‘Polar Bears' assigned to 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
In the early hours of May 12, Jimenez and other members of his unit were attacked by enemy forces resulting in the immediate deaths of four Soldiers. Three others went missing, including Jimenez, with one, Pfc. Joseph Anzack Jr., being found dead several days after the attack.
