BAGHDAD, Iraq - Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers found three separate caches May 12 to 13 in the Rashid district of southern Baghdad.
At approximately 3:15 p.m. May 12, Soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad, worked with the 7th Brigade, 2nd National Police Division, on a tip from a local citizen in the Doura community.
The tip led to the discovery of a cache containing a 155mm artillery round, rocket propelled grenade rounds, RPG launchers, machineguns with 100 rounds of ammunition, sets of body armor, homemade hand grenades, several containers of homemade explosives, and more than 300 items used in the construction of improvised-explosive devices.
At approximately 1:50 a.m. May 13, Soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division found an RPG with launcher and an unknown amount of linked ammunition in the Jihad community.
At approximately 10:40 a.m. in the Karb De Gla community, members of the Abna al-Iraq, or Sons of Iraq, turned in more than 100 pounds of plastic explosives to MND-B Soldiers.
"These cache finds are affecting the terrorist's ability to launch attacks against the MND-B Soldiers and the Iraqi people," said Maj. Dave Olson, 1st Brigade Combat Team spokesman. "Tips from concerned Iraqi citizens aid the Iraqi Security and Coalition forces in providing a stable and secure environment for the 1.2 million residents of the Rashid district."
