Blackanthem Military News, CAMP LIBERTY, Iraq - A crowded auditorium was all Sgt. Gordon Wesley of the 1171st ASMC needed to come away with the “U.S. Forces Bodybuilding Championships” Heavyweight title.
After years of dedication to the sport and months training for this contest, Wesley's hard work ethic and determination beat out 24 other competitors to earn the right to be called “Champion.”
Training for an event like this takes time Wesley said. “It doesn't happen overnight.” “The key to training is to be patient, learn what your body can take, and then go to the extreme of those limits.”
Wesley, a Michigan National Guardsman, is an employee of Foote Hospital in Jackson and student in Baker College of Jackson. He is in his seventh month of a year long deployment to Iraq
Wesley's regime included dieting, weight training, a lot of cardio, and the external motivation of two of his workout partners and another close friend. Wesley also sights his supervisors for allowing him to compete in this competition as well as his family and friends that have motivated him to be successful.
