TIKRIT Iraq - An air assault utilizing coalition UH-60 Black Hawks ended with the capture of 29 detainees with ties to Al-Qaeda in Iraq, May 20.
A small group of Black Hawks belonging to 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, inserted U.S. Special Forces and Iraqi SWAT into a village, located 10 miles NE of Baghdad. The helicopter pilots landed their aircrafts in two different locations of the village.
The helicopters helped the Iraqi SWAT and their American counterparts to accomplish their mission of capturing Al-Qaeda in Iraq, while at the same time disrupting insurgent operations in the area. The air assault resulted in the capture of 29 insurgents, including the leader of an Al-Qaeda intelligence cell, three of his subordinates and an Al-Qaeda Emir from the Mullah Eid area.
