CAMP ATTERBURY JOINT MANEUVER TRAINING CENTER, Ind. - On New Year's Eve, people all around the world are thinking about their resolutions and how they are planning to start the new year.
Although the 1-19th Indiana Agribusiness Development Team will not make it home tonight, they will spend the last day of the year making sure they're all set for the new year to come.
Soldiers of the 1-19th Indiana Agribusiness Development Team are going through the demobilization process at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center after completing a year-long deployment in remote regions of Afghanistan.
Their mission focused on the improvement of Afghanistan's agricultural growth by teaching Afghans better farming techniques, proper irrigation and the identification of good seed.
"We were teaching them how to identify good seed and distribution of the good seed evenly so they can produce the best product for best yield, for each acre," said Maj. Larry Temple, an agronomist for the Indiana ADT.
"My proudest moment was seeing the excitement of the farmers while we were teaching them," Temple said. "I could see they were learning something that would improve their farming operation and they were really glad to see the progress in their farms."
Spc. Jude Anglemyer, with the security team for the Indiana ADT, said his proudest moment was when they were invited to eat with the village elders and after the dinner the Soldiers passed out radios and books to the local children.
Sgt. Ryan Beard, with the security team for the Indiana ADT, said he's eager to lay eyes on his own kid.
"I can't wait to get home to see my newly born son," said Beard. His son Leo was born during his deployment.
So as everything comes to a close - duffel bags, the out processing and 2009 - Soldiers wait patiently for the dawn of the new day, so they can begin the new year with their families.
