ZABUL PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Senior leadership from the 82nd Airborne Division, 116th Infantry Brigade Team and 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division visited soldiers at Combat Outpost Baylough Nov. 7.

Maj. Gen. James L. Huggins, Regional Command South commander, presented 12 soldiers with combat awards before touring the COP.

“Everything you do depends on the soldier next to you,” said Huggins. “In this remote outpost you have to have a focus and a purpose.”

Soldiers from Bravo Company, 1-24th Infantry Regiment are subject to mortar and small arms fire at the COP, but all of them share a common bond with each other through the experience of being located at the remote COP. Ceremonies like this one bring a stronger brotherhood to the soldiers of Bravo Company because each of them knows that they can depend on each other during life and death situations.

In all, nine combat infantry badges, two combat action badges and one combat medic badge were presented by Maj. Gen. Huggins.

Capt. Charles R. Timm, Bravo Company, 1-24th Infantry Regiment, led the senior leaders on a tour of the COP. The COP has Afghan National Army serving alongside American soldiers. The leaders paused for lunch by enjoying a Meal-Ready-to Eat with Timm before leaving the COP.
