FORWARD OPERATING BASE DELTA, Iraq - Iraqi Army Soldiers are ready to take over the security mission at Joint Security Station One near Jassan.

Iraqi and Coalition Forces held a dedication ceremony Oct. 11 at the JSS, which signified the readiness of the Iraqi Army to assume security responsibilities of the checkpoint.

Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 32nd Iraqi Army Brigade and Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment have been training together at the JSS since the Georgian Army departed in August.

"We have conducted a lot of joint operations with the Coalition Forces in the area," said Col. Saleem Hamiza Nasseh, 1st Bn., 32nd IA Bde commander.

"We have met a lot of the local leaders and they have cooperated with us to chase out terrorists and capture outlaws. Today, we announce that we are ready to control this JSS and security of the area," said Saleem.

"Today we take a brief moment to commemorate one small step in a long journey towards a bright future, a democratic, prosperous and free Iraq," said Lt. Col. Timothy Bush, 2-20 FA commander.

Colonel Richard M. Francey, Jr., 41st Fires Brigade Commander said that this dedication ceremony is a symbol of the continued partnership between Iraqi and Coalition Forces.

"The partnership here enables security forces to reach out to the populous to secure them," said Francey. "What brings security to the province is the professionalism of these forces."

JSS-1 is named for three fallen Soldiers: Iraqi Army Soldier Salih Liftah Hameed, U.S. Army Soldier Sgt. Edmond L. Randle and Iraqi Policeman Lt. Col. Salam Fakry Abass.

After the ceremony, Francey and Brig. Gen. Abed Jabir, 32nd IA Bde. commander, cut the ribbon at the JSS, officially dedicating it to the three fallen Soldiers.
