Combat Communications Wing Commander Colonel Theresa Giorlando, welcomes back SSgt Jon Hutchins from his deployment, who was the network specialist on the DICE team.
ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. - Tuesday, six members of the 53rd Combat Communications Squadron’s Deployable Initial Communications Element team, or DICE team, returned from a six-week deployment in Haiti, in support of Operation Unified Response, a humanitarian effort to help out Haiti after the devastating earthquake.

The team consisted of Capt. Joel Nelson, Tech. Sgt. Turvon Casey, Staff Sgt. Jon Hutchins, Staff Sgt. Jerome Graham, Staff Sgt. Trenton Morgan, and Senior Airman Travis Meyer. They deployed down to Haiti to provide communications support, consisting of phones, internet, and video feeds to the Air Force Expeditionary Medical Support unit down there. They also boosted morale by providing both internet access and the ability to make phone calls to home to hundreds of other deployed personnel in the area.

The DICE team assisted with bringing these more than 2,500 patients to and from their camp, and to the Navy hospital ship, the USNS Comfort.  The team also engaged in joint operations at the Port au Prince Airport with its sister unit, the 3rd Combat Communications Group based out of Tinker AFB, Okla. They were also able to share their invaluable expeditionary knowledge to other service members down there, through various on-the-spot training to those who needed it.
