KABUL, Afghanistan - On Thursday, Mar. 14, United States Air Force Lt. Col. Bryce Brakman assumed command of the Zabul Provincial Reconstruction Team (ZPRT) from United States Army Lt. Col. James Bramble in a ceremony held at Forward Operating Base Lagman in Qalat, Zabul province.
After the guidon was exchanged between outgoing and incoming commanders, symbolizing the change of command, Delbar Jan Arman, Governor of Zabul, addressed the audience. He thanked Colonel Bramble for his work and wished Colonel Brakman success, saying they would be working together to support each other and the people of Afghanistan.
In his speech to the assembly, Colonel Brakman thanked the distinguished guests and members of ZPRT team.
"We came from all over the world--Japan to Italy, Florida to Washington," he said. "Together we united at Fort Bragg, North Carolina to build, what I consider, one of the best teams I have ever been a part of."
The bulk of Colonel Brakman's team, composed of personnel from the U.S. Army National Guard and Reserves, active-duty Army and Air Force, U.S. Department of State and Agriculture and U.S. Agency for International Development, arrived in Qalat in early March.
"Everyone worked hard in training and demonstrated an enthusiastic team approach," he continued. "That team approach attitude will serve us well as we assist the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan project capable and legitimate governance to and for the people of Zabul Province."
The mission of the ZPRT is to conduct civil-military operations in Zabul Province to extend the reach and legitimacy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan by promoting good governance and justice, enabling an effective Afghan security force through training and mentorship, and facilitating reconstruction, development and economic growth by developing projects on the leading edge of the Afghan National Development Strategy.
