CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait - The 217th has been conducting Combat Escort Team (CET) training to supply the CET platoon with a reserve of Soldiers during times of low personnel availability, e.g., team members on leave or on multiple missions.  So far, they have completed the classroom portion of the training and the M2 machine gun range.  That leaves the question, "how exactly do you conduct classroom CET training?"

The classroom portion of training is actually very vital to helping Soldiers understand and grasp the newest standard operating procedures.  The students relearned basic techniques for reacting to contact and to roadside bomb detonations.  In the classroom, seasoned CET Soldiers relayed situations and confrontations they personally experienced out on the roads of Iraq.  After extensively covering the classroom portion, it was onto driver's training where the "pedal went to the metal."

The M1224 MAX PRO Caimans roared to life as the new drivers tested and honed their skills on one of the many ranges here in Kuwait.  They encountered field problems such as steep inclines/declines, flat tires, serpentines, and off-road driving.  All this training created 11 qualified gunners and drivers on the M1224. The culminating event for these Soldiers is a brief run to COB Adder. This run is designed to allow the new Soldiers to observe seasoned Soldiers in action. This also allows them to take the reins and show what they learned on the return trip to Kuwait.

Training at the range and on the M1224 was supplemented by scenarios at the CET training village compound and expert direction from the Military Professional Resources, Inc. Personnel. These well-trained personnel have proven to be a valuable asset, enabling more thorough and efficient training.  This training will continue next month for another 20 Soldiers. Upon completing all requirements, the 217th will be efficient, flexible and adaptive to any future missions that come their way.
