Blackanthem Military News, MOSUL, Iraq - Iraqi police and army units responded to a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack targeting innocent civilians and damaging businesses and property in the Al Sijin neighborhood of Mosul, Iraq, June 25.

IPs from the 1 West IP station and IA units responded to reports of the VBIED attack which killed two people and wounded 14 others and damaged 20 local stores and seven privately-owned vehicles.

"Iraqi Security Forces acted swiftly and decisively in response to this desperate act of terrorism," said Col. Stephen Twitty, commander, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. "Their actions reduced the impact of this potentially devastating attack."

IP and army units arrived and began rendering assistance to the injured while safeguarding any Iraqi citizens who lived or worked in the damaged buildings in the area.

"Terrorists are making desperate attempts to cripple the growth process of the citizens and businesses of Mosul," said Twitty. "The local community will unite and quickly rebuild as ISF hunt down those responsible for this attack."

The wounded were taken to Al Jamouri and Mosul General Hospitals.
