Blackanthem Military News, JALALABAD AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Soldiers from Task Force Wolfpack and members of the Nuristan Provincial Reconstruction Team embraced the Dow Ab District of Nuristan Province alongside Afghan government officials, security forces and prominent local leaders during a mission conducted March 27-29.

Army Lt. Col. Todd Brown, the Nuristan PRT commander, and Army Lt. Col. David Bushey, the commander of Task Force Wolfpack, discussed ongoing road projects in the Dow Ab and Mandol districts and the regional economic benefits likely to accrue from the road development initiatives during a string of meetings with key leaders from more than 10 district villages.

The commanders emphasized the importance of establishing a district development council and generating a district development plan in order to prioritize reconstruction efforts and ensure local plans with Afghan government goals. They also stressed the importance of close government cooperation among local elders, local government and Afghan National Security Forces in establishing and maintaining security and the rule of law.

Army Capt. Charles Day of Task Force Wolfpack conducted a medical assistance operation in conjunction with the mission. Day collaborated closely with local doctors as the medical team provided treatment at the Dow Ab clinic.

Brown described the event as a successful result of effective coordination, planning and allied teamwork. Officials representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Coalition forces, ANSF, village elders and provincial professionals all collaborated in the successful mission.

"The Dow Ab mission is another example of IRoA government officials, security forces and Coalition working together to meet the needs of the Afghan people," the PRT commander said. "The medical assistance, new footbridge projects and joint security patrols are all tangible examples of progress toward building a stable and secure Dow Ab District."
